3
weeks ago today, we had been home from the hospital for just one day. It’s weird – it simultaneously feels like
forever ago, and a really short time. I
sometimes forget that my baby is only 3 weeks old, especially at 3am when I am
wondering when she will start sleeping through the night!

Update
on the last post – those of you who responded that she was going through a
growth spurt were absolutely correct!
She weighed 7 lbs at her 2-week check up – up a full pound from her
birth weight! At least I know all those
late night feedings are paying off.
Also, she ended up outgrowing the newborn size diapers just two days
after I posted that it seemed like she would be in them for a long time –
lol. So we ended up with 2 leftover
packages of newborn diapers. The upside
is that we have a bunch of friends who are currently pregnant, and I don’t
think they’ll mind being given some of our leftover newborn diapers. Also, I think my body may be starting to
adjust to the new reality of sleeping in 2-3 hour increments. Last night, she actually slept for a 4 hour
stretch and it was beautiful!
Guinevere
started to roll over on one side about a week ago. As her mom, I am mixed with a feeling of
pride that she’s doing something so advanced, and terror because it means we
have to watch her very closely to make sure she doesn’t roll off of anything. We have this great little Baby Einstein play
gym that we can set her down on and she can stare around the room and kick at
the toys that hang off of it. Today, she
started to try to reach for the big killer whale toy that hangs from the top of
it.

The
pediatrician gave us the ok to start pumping and using a pacifier. I have heard of some controversy surrounding
pacifiers, but with Guinevere, it has been a Godsend! She’s one of those babies who just needs/likes
to suck. So in the times between
feedings, when we can tell she’s not hungry and is just fussy, using the
pacifier seems to help enormously! Of
course, she hasn’t yet figured out how to put it back in her mouth when she
drops it, so then she starts grunting or crying to get it back.
Speaking
of pumping, that has also been a wonderful addition to our day! It means that Aaron can feed her and I have
the freedom to actually leave the house for more than 15 minutes without
feeling guilty. I went to Target the
other day, and it felt so good to be out and about. As I was walking across the parking lot, I
realized that the last time I ran errands I was still ginormously
pregnant. I went to the gym for the
first time yesterday and it felt amazing!
I missed the gym so much! I
promised Aaron that I would take it easy in my workout. I did the elliptical for about 20 minutes
followed by some weights and some ab work.
It was the first time I’d done ab work in 9 months! At first, I was worried about whether my abs
would even work. Then I sat on the
exercise ball and started doing some crunches – my abs were still there and
still worked!
